Dana Kellis MD PhD MBA FACP

BIOS

“Doc”, aka “Doctor Dana,” “Presidente,”, “G’pa,” “Professor,” “Kellis” and various other less endearing titles readily grab Dr. Dana’s attention whether he’s authoring papers, letters or books, flying, teaching a class, running a meeting, playing with grandkids, or pretty much anything else. His energies have flowed through a variety of organizations and avocations but are always in pursuit of making his family and community a better place by constantly expanding his knowledge and skills, helping to shoulder others’ burdens and sharing experience and wisdom through leadership and education.
His education and training started with an undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University in Chemistry, followed by an MD degree at Washington University in St. Louis, a residency in Internal Medicine at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, an MBA degree at the University of Pittsburgh, and a PhD degree in Public Affairs at Penn State University.
His career in medicine evolved from practicing primary care to intensive care and then to administrative medicine as a senior leader at various hospital systems. In each of these roles, his focus has been on improving the quality and safety of the care patients receive from their providers. In addition to his career in medicine, he has had academic appointments at the University of Arizona, Temple University, Penn State University, Shippensburg University and the University of Phoenix.
Activities outside of his work with hospitals include founding a free medical clinic, serving as a Boy Scout Leader, serving on various boards, earning an Extra Class Ham Radio License, earning a Private Pilot License and flying regularly, serving as a full-time missionary for two years in Guatemala and El Salvador, serving as a Bishop (lay pastor) for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, building an experimental airplane (an RV-7a) and lots of exercise — running, walking, swimming, weights.
Now with retirement, he and his wife Connie enjoy traveling to spend time with their children (7) and grandchildren (12) who live in several different states and countries. In February, they returned from 18 months service as medical missionaries with their Church in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In August, they sold their home in Oldsmar, Florida and relocated to Salt Lake City.
