Born: Williston, North Dakota: 9/1/1953; second of three boys
Raised: Hobbs, New Mexico; graduated High School; salutatorian 1971
Attended New Mexico State University 1971-1976: Physical Science Lab Scholarship: Alternated 2 semesters of school with 2 semesters of work tracking satellites for the US Navy. Stationed in: Lompoc, California; Pretoria, South Africa; Mizusawa, Japan; and Attu Island Alaska.
1976-1978: Cotton Breeding, NMSU
1978-1982: Medical School: University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Albuquerque, NM, on a Public Health Service Scholarship
1982-85: Residency in Internal Medicine; Good Samaritan Hospital, Phoenix, Arizona. Board Certification in Internal Medicine.
1985-1989: Practice of Internal Medicine, Truth or Consequences, NM; payback for the Public Health Service Scholarship.
1989-1994: private practice in Johnstown, PA; associate program director for Internal Medicine Residency Program at Conemaugh Hospital in Johnston, PA; Board Certification in Geriatrics
1994-2007: Practice of Internal Medicine/Geriatrics with Presbyterian Health Care, Albuquerque, and Rio Rancho NM
2007-2016: Practice Internal Medicine/Geriatrics with Baylor Scott and White, Round Rock, Texas, and Georgetown Texas.
2016-2020: Practice Internal Medicine/Geriatrics, Lead Physician in Internal Medicine with Presbyterian Health Care, Rio Rancho NM.
Retired, March of 2020, and returned to work with Presbyterian January of 2021, Internal Medicine, due to overwhelming Covid cases.
Retired in August of 2022, as Covid emergency was resolving.
January of 2024 to present: Began Testing 2 days per week for Mild Cognitive Impairment at the Rio Rancho Public Library after certification of the site by the Alzheimer’s Association. We are certified to use either the MMSE, or the Montreal Cognitive Assessment testing and provide after-test results, explanations and recommendations. Dr. Hightower will be pleased to hear from you.
